Updates on Library services

The library is open for users. Before visiting, please read the house rules in force.

 

Evening studies in NUK: 5 Januray-6 February 2026

During the evening study period, the Main Reading Room is available Monday to Friday until 10.30 PM, the Café area is open until 10 PM. On Saturdays, the Main Reading Room is available until 2 PM, the Café area is open until 6 PM. When leaving, please make sure to take all your personal belongings. Forgotten items can be collected at the NUK reception the next day. We wish you successful study.

 

Temporary closure of the Computer and Learning space

We would like to inform you that, starting from 20 October, the Computer and Learning Space (room 3) will be temporarily closed due to renovation works. The card catalogues will be available in the left wing of the ground floor, while computers with internet access will be located in the temporary Newspaper reading room in the basement of the Library. Lockers for borrowing material will not be available. Thank you for your understanding.

 

Temporary closure of the Newspaper reading room and additional study places

Starting from 26 May, the Newspaper reading room will be temporarily closed due to renovation works taking place in the adjoining storage area, which will provide urgently needed additional study places. Please note that occasional noise disturbances may occur in the library during this time.

Current daily newspapers, microfilms, and the computer for reading newspapers in digital format can be read and used in the Space for group learning in the Plečnik's hall NUK.

Access to the Library through the Newspaper Reading Room Temporarily Closed 

Due to renovation works, access to the Library from Vegova Street — which is adapted for visitors with mobility impairments and the visually impaired — is temporarily unavailable until the completion of works (expected by May 2026). A platform lift is available inside the Library to assist with movement between floors. Upon arrival, please call the security service at +386 41 300 741, who will accompany you into the building.

Tourist groups must register to visit the NUK on weekdays (Monday through Friday) at dogodki@nuk.uni-lj.si. No registration is required on Saturday.

  • Open: Monday – Friday from 9am to 6pm, Saturday from 9am to 2pm 

 

THE MAIN READING ROOM 

  • Open: Monday – Friday from 8am to 8 pm, Saturday from 9am to 2pm 
  • Before entering, please visit the Cloakroom
  • Occupancy of the NUK Reading Room seats can be checked on the website at any time
  • The cloakroom is open from 8am to 8pm.
 

MANUSCRIPT COLLECTION READING ROOM (REVIEWING OF MANUSCRIPTS AND RARE AND OLD PRINTS)

  • Open: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9am to 2pm; Wednesday from 9am to 6pm; every first Saturday each month from 9am to 2 pm 
  • Prior reservation of the Reading room seat and prior ordering of material at least a day before the visit is obligatory to: rokopisnazbirka@nuk.uni-lj.si (materials ordered until 11am will be available next day)

 

User seats are also available in the Information Centre (ground floor, room 9) to support the use of electronic resources and for searching material.

You are recommended to use the SERVICES IN THE ONLINE ENVIRONMENT.  

You can borrow library materials remotely, via postal service (with paying for the envelope and postal services). For further information, please contact us by e-mail izposoja@nuk.uni-lj.si

In the Registration Room you can:

  • order library material,
  • collect ordered library material and copies,
  • return borrowed library materials,
  • join the library,
  • complete the registration process started online,
  • renew your membership,
  • settle possible liabilities to the library,
  • empty a rented locker.

The Registration Room is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.

Please do not enter the library if you have any signs of a respiratory infection, a fever or you feel sick. We provide services in accordance with the valid recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) in a way that enables secure exchange for users as well as for the library employees.

  • before visiting the library, order material by using COBISS +,
  • please do not come to the library until you have received notification that the ordered material is available,
  • before joining the library, fill-in the online form,
  • order copies of material in advance by sending an e-mail message to izposoja@nuk.uni-lj.si,
  • we recommend contactless payment.
