Library Research Activity

dekorativna slikaOne of the statutory tasks of the National and University Library (NUK) involves research work in the field of library and information science; it is coordinated and carried out by the Library Research Department (ODRAZ). The research activity is conducted within research projects that enable development of NUK and the library system activities as well as research projects financed from public funds of the Republic of Slovenia. The library is also engaged in international projects, thus acquiring additional knowledge and experience and strengthening international partnerships. Participation in national and foreign projects guarantees the development of the library’s activity, and its integration at the national and European level.

NUK performs research activity in accordance with its mission and strategic orientations, primarily in the field of preservation and conservation of library materials, digitalization and digital library development, and in providing access to, use and preservation of electronic publications. An important part of the Library Research Department's activity is monitoring of the ongoing national and foreign calls for project tenders and the provision of application forms. As part of the research activity, the Library Research Department conducts statistical measurements of Slovenian libraries' activities, processes and publishes statistical data and performance indicators of libraries. The collected data enable analyses of a library‘s activity and the assessment of its development and performance.
