“LANGUAGE IN DISTRESS” - ON THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF NIKO GRAFENAUER
Niko Grafenauer (1940), poet, essayist and translator, gave Slovenian poetry a strong poetical impetus in the 60th of the 20th century. His confessional character extends from soft sentimentality to painful bitterness, while always present intellect shows him the world that is “cruel like unambiguous consciousness”. His prominent collections of poems are »Stiska jezika«“(Language in Distress), “Štukature« (Stucco),”Palimpesti« (Palimpsests), Dihindih. His opus of poetry for young adults, like “Skrivnosti« (Secrets), “Pedenjped”, Majhnica and Stara Ljubljana“(Old Ljubljana) are also known.

JANKO KOS - ON THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH
On the occasion of the Slovenian Cultural Holiday, the National and University will mark the 80 anniversary of Academician Prof. Dr. Janko Kos who was between 1970 to 1998 full professor of comparative literature and literary theory at the Faculty of Arts of the Ljubljana University. In his youth, he was one of the most outstanding critical essayists and editors of the cultural and literal reviews Beseda (Words) and Perspektive (Perspectives) that the post war authorities suspended due to disagreement with the reviews editorial policy. His studies focused on contacts between Slovenian and other European literatures, historical problems of specific literary sciences and genres as well as on the analysis and systematics of literary-theoretical concepts. His scientific opus consists of more than 650 units; among them are scientific monographs, articles, textbooks etc. As literary historian he was strongly involved in studying Prešeren, he was also editor of the poet’s collected works.

SAŠA FUIS/ PHOTOS: PLEČNIK/ THE NATIONAL AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Photos of Plečnik’s architecture of the National and University Library will be exhibited. Visitors will have the possibility to see the photographic interpretation of Plečnik’s architecture and compare it with Plečnik’s realization outside the exhibition room.
Saša Fuis(1961) was born in Novo mesto where he graduated from high school. He took a diploma at the Cologne Higher School of Photography. Until 1994, he was involved in documenting artistic and architectural works. He opened his own studio in 1995. He takes photos of works of art for museums, auction firms and private collectors.

A WOMAN PAINTER OF SKY BLUE EYES: BARA REMEC – ILLUSTRATOR
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Bara Remec death, and her first exhibition in the independent Slovenia, Bara Remec as illustrator of literary works will be presented. She had early decided to become a painter. In her time, it was a rather unusual decision. She won recognition before the WW II, after the War she continued her artistic growth as an illustrator in Argentina, in the landscape of mountains and lakes.

MOUNTAIN TOURISM: EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CARTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL FROM THE END OF THE 19TH CENTURY TO THE THIRTIES OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Photos of Slovenian mountains covering the period from the end of the 19th century to the thirties of the 20th century will be exhibited. Amateur photographers, great admirers of mountains, the so-called mountain tourists who published their photos in the Mladilka supplement and the review Dom in svet are connected with the beginning of the mountain photography. Members of the Tourist Club Skala joined them later. The exhibition will also present articles with photos of mountains, postcards and hand-made maps of the first Slovenian mountaineers.

TRUBAR FOUNDATION IN NUK
Trubar Foundation is a joint action of the Slovene Writers‛ Association, the Slovene PEN Centre and Centre for Slovene Literature, with the aim of subsidizing publication of literary writings by Slovenian authors in translation. The Foundation activity is closely connected with one of the basic goals of the National and University Library, that is to collect, preserve and conserve various editions of works by Slovene authors in all languages available. Trubar Foundation was for the first time presented in 2005; this year, editions published since then under the auspices of the Foundation will be displayed at the exhibition.

DRAGOTIN CVETKO - ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH (1911-1993)
In Slovene cultural and music sphere, Dragotin Cvetko (1911) is considered father of musicology, nowadays a very important profession, fundamental for discussing about music. As a result of his organizational work, the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana (1962), and the Institute of Musicology (1980) at the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) were founded. With his wide-ranging works he laid firm foundations of the music history on the Slovene territory and he contributed to the international affirmation of the profession.

DUŠAN PIRJEVEC
Pirjevec was professor of comparative literature (like Janko Kos). He was born in 1921, his father Avgust Pirjevec was a literary historian and a NUK librarian.
The life of Dušan Pirjevec was turbulent and in a way controversial: during the National Liberation War he was an important member of the Communist Party performing high political and military functions. After the War he was imprisoned for some time and he gradually withdraw from Marxism. In 1952 he graduated at the Department of Comparative Literature and Literary Theory of the Ljubljana University. During the initial period after the diploma, he was mostly occupied in researching Slovenian modernist literature and its contacts with the European literature, later when studying German classical philosophy and modern trends of phenomenology and existentialism, he got very much involved with the theory of novel that was for him the most appropriate literary genre of modern times. It was Heidegger philosophy that influenced him remarkably. In seventies, the lectures of charismatic professor attached attention of many young students.
