GREAT AUTHORS FOR SMALL READERS – DEVELOPMENT OF THE SLOVENIAN YOUTH PROSE
After more than hundred years, Slovenian literary creation for youth can praise itself with a wide range of prose forms and a reach thematic diversity. The exhibition presents the development of the Slovenian prose from the first translations of German speaking authors and the first authorial attempts to write for youth, to systematic publication of Slovenian prose after the World War II and flourishing of imaginative and realistic prose forms in the seventies until today. Among the exhibited works for youth are also works by great Slovenian prose writes, therefore writing for children and youth is as demanding as writing for adults or even more.

50 Years of the Trieste Publishing House Mladika
In May 1961, the publication of Bruna Marija Pertot’s collection of poems entitled My Spring (Moja pomlad) laid grounds of publishing activities of the Mladika publishing house; this moderate publishing house had been publishing the Mladika review four years already. It became more recognizable after the Slovene independence. Nowadays, it publishes literary works, books for children, historical studies, dictionaries, handbooks, but the most important are works of Slovene authors living outside borders that Mladika promotes throughout the Slovene territory. Translated literature is addressing also Italian speaking readers.
The exhibition of selected books published by Mladika brings closer the development of the publishing house, its authors, and its present and past role at the southern border of the Slovene territory.
