The primary purpose of the Centre is to provide preservation of the nation‛s literary heritage held in the National and University Library. The Centre consists of Restoration Department, Bindery, Research Group and the competent official for the preservation of library material.

Areas of Responsibility

• Restoration, conservation, protection, care and preservation of library material.
• Research and development in the field of restoration and conservation of library material.
• Analysis of microclimate and other conditions for the preservation of library material.
• Provision of professional advice and statements of professional opinion and expertise on the preservation of library material.
• Co-operation in the creation, management and maintenance of the Digital Library of Slovenia.
• Binding services.
• Provision of professional assistance and instruction to libraries and implementation of training for the Slovenian librarians.
• Raising public, professional and political awareness of the importance of caring for the written cultural heritage and promoting a better understanding of the national preservation problem.
