• to ensure effective system of legal deposit of printed and electronic publications
• to obtain additional resources for purchasing “slovenica” abroad, and old “slovenica”
• to collaborate with other institutions and private owners of Slovenian printed cultural and scientific heritage for the purpose of acquiring »slovenica«

IMMEDIATE AND EFFECTIVE PROCESSING OF ACQUIRED MATERIAL
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to effectively organize an immediate processing of legal deposit publications and other acquired material
• to improve processing technologies and to rationalize working process
• to ensure staff and technological conditions for processing of increasing amount of electronic or digital sources

CONCERN TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND CONSERVE PERMANENTLY THE NATIONAL WRITTEN CULTURAL AND SCIENTIFIC HERITAGE
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to improve the conditions of storage of material in existing premises , and to strengthen efforts to start building the new ones (NUK2)
• to ensure safe archiving of legal deposit in physical format
• to ensure conditions for long-term conservation of material in digital form
• to transform endangered material in physical format to other (more persistent ) formats
• to perform necessary conservation and preservation works to delay progression of decaying of materials
• to implement modern chemical procedures to stop decaying material on acid paper
• to undertake research activities in the field of preservation of written cultural heritage

CREATION AND MAINTENANCE OF DIGITAL COLLECTIONS AND PROVISION OF THEIR ACCESSIBILITY
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to create current and retrospective national bibliography
• to build and expand digital collections of national importance
• to build and increase digital scientific and research collections
• to provide access to digitized collections by means of a single information portal for knowledge management ( Digital Library of Slovenia – dLib.si ) and its development
• to establish an appropriate access to digital archive of electronic and web publications
• to concept, establish and develop the portal for a single access to e-contents of cultural domain to serve as e-content national aggregator

INCREASING THE USE OF THE LIBRARY COLLECTION AND OTHER INFORMATION SOURCES ACCESSED FROM THE LIBRARY
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• planned digitization of materials, creation and development of the digital library
• to introduce new electronic services and increase the number of users at a distance
• to increase the number of the University of Ljubljana users, as well as of the scientific and research spheres
• to provide users with professional assistance in searching information resources
• to train users to use information resources
• to regularly present to public the rich national printed cultural heritage
• to make accessible the Library collection and other information resources to physically or other disabled persons
• to improve conditions for studying and qualitative spending of leisure time in the Library

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN BUILDING OF THE SLOVENIAN LIBRARY SYSTEM AND SUPPORTING ITS DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS THE LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE LIBRARY SYSTEMS OF THE MOST DEVELOPED EU COUNTRIES
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to continuously monitor and analyze the situation and developments in the field of information society, and development of the library systems in EU countries
• to actively cooperate with Slovenian and EU libraries and librarians in joint projects
• to supervise and monitor development of Slovenian libraries and the library system in accordance with national needs and capabilities, and the European and world development trends
• to provide professional groundwork for development of the Slovenian National Catalogue system
• to outline development strategy of the national aggregator of e-contents in the field of culture
• to organize and implement non-formal professional education and research activities in the field of librarianship

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN BUILDING-UP THE EUROPEAN DIGITAL LIBRARY
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to participate in the creation and development of the European Digital Library (Europeana)
• to co-operate in establishing models of accessing to digitalized and digital born contents at national and European level
• to co-operate in management and development of European national libraries joint portal
  (The European Library)

SUPPORT FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE LIBRARY STAFF FOR SUCCESSFUL AND EFFECTIVE WORK
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to support the library staff to participate in formal education programs in the fields of their work scope or deficient sectors of the library
• to ensure the library staff training in Slovenia and abroad
• to ensure the library staff to undertake continuing training at the workplace
• to educate and train the staff on new technologies and working procedures in the Digital Library, web environment and computerized system support

PROVISION OF THE LIBRARY STAFF, FINANCIAL, FACILITY AND OTHER CONDITIONS REQUIRED FOR THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LIBRARY MISSION
Strategies to achieve the objectives:

• to increase the number of staff and the optimum reconciliation of number and structure of regularly employed with outworkers and outsourcing
• to effectively allocate financial resources and to control internal processes
• to provide the needed funds for the functioning of the traditional as well as digital library, and to increase the Library revenues
• to improve conditions of premises for studying, scientific research activity and quality spending of leisure time in the Library
• to build the new Library building
