Library Vision

The Library wishes to enable the widest possible access to Slovenian and world’s written and cultural heritage. NUK collection and information sources should become available to everyone not only in the Library premises but also on one’s virtual bookshelf through electronic access.

The Library will maintain and preserve its collections, and will take over an even more active role in digitization of existing library material, and in collecting and preserving information sources in electronic formats or digitized material. In doing so, the Library will continue to cooperate with other libraries and organizations at national and international level. Users will be provided with ready access to the basis of global knowledge and they will be instructed how to use it.

The Library will closely cooperate with its users and the wider environment, and will develop services in order to meet users’ needs. NUK’s aim is to become even more visible in the wider environment and to make Slovenian citizens aware of its necessity, usefulness and indispensableness for the present and future social, cultural and spiritual development of the nation. The aim is that NUK is brought closer to the citizens so that they would visit the Library and use library collection and services regardless of their origin, or where and when they decide to do so.

The existing services will be gradually upgraded towards digital library offer and the use of contemporary web tools. In order to achieve development, the Library will cooperate and develop partnerships with different national and international libraries and organizations. Users will benefit from effective partnership which will contribute to the development of cost-effective supply of the Library products and services.

Through the integration of its library collection into the national and international network of cultural and scientific sources, NUK will become a more visible part of an increasingly distributed network of knowledge. Special attention will be paid to the creation of the library as a central point of education, research and qualitative spending of leisure time of Slovenia‛s citizens.
