The images of Slovenian Styria

The exhibition presents a combination of vedutas, albums and maps thus it interlinks three different domains: cultural and art history, history, vedutism, topography and geography.

Original material will be exhibited: original copies of albums and the selection of original vedutas by Georg Matthæus Vischer (1681) and his two maps (1678), originals of Joseph Franz Kaiser (1824-1833) and Carl Reichert (1863-1865) and cartographic works from the 17th to the 19th century of the Styria region.

The exhibition also presents a twenty-year project of publishing reprints of the Slovenian Styria Region albums of topographical-vedutas from the 17th and 19th centuries; it was the Primož Premzl Art Cabinet that published the albums. The project – a publishing trio - offers visitors the insight into the academic work carried out at the time the publications were arranged for publishing; it tries to demonstrate the significance of such collections in the Slovenian territory, and for the Slovenian cultural history.

The exhibits are from the funds of the University Library Maribor, the Maribor Regional Museum, from Primož Premzl private collection, the National and University Library (Ljubljana) and the Ptuj Regional Museum - Ormož.
